A Welcome From Our President

Dear Friends,

We call ourselves “The Little Shul With A Big Heart” and that’s still the reason I’m proud to be associated with Congregation Beth Ahm. There are many other shuls with far more members and far larger treasuries, with bigger buildings and more opulent facilities, with trappings that dazzle the eye and impress the senses. But you will not find another synagogue with more genuine warmth and humanity than ours.

In our little shul, we in fact strip away many of the trappings of grandeur. We get down to the basics of why people come to services: to touch that quiet place that resides in each one of us, to commune in a very personal way with our God, to think and discuss and argue (always respectfully) about what makes us Jews, to wrestle with the ethical questions that we confront in our everyday lives and ultimately to find a spiritual peace. I think of it as “shelter from the storm.”

That “shelter” is available to every member of our synagogue and I believe that is why they have chosen Congregation Beth Ahm as their spiritual home. There are many, many alternatives out there, but our congregants have chosen us for what we stand for and what we are. We are small, but we take pride in being part of the miniscule percentage of the world’s population who have, for the past three millennia, continued to face a sometimes very hostile world for the privilege of calling themselves Jews and who have changed the face of humanity itself.

Please join us in our quest to live an ethical life and to find a state of grace for which we all long. I think you will find this is the place to do it.

Respectfully,
Dean Gordon President,
Congregation Beth Ahm
