Beit Midrash:
Rabbi Kriegel will share his daily study of tractate
chagigah with those who wish to join on an informal basis in the library
every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning from 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM. Ongoing.
Kabbalah:

A pre-Lurianic study of the original introduction to the Kabbalah with an emphasis on understanding the secrets necessary to uncover the Kabalistic approach to the mysteries of Judaism (and to existence in general). This class will be presented in English from a direct translation of the Aramaic text.
Guide to the Perplexed:
(Wednesday at 5:00 PM)
An exploration into the first book of this philosophical masterpiece which was composed by Moses Maimonides in order to understand how the Rambam understood anthropomorphic language in the Torah. Maimonides, perhaps the greatest Jewish philosopher, has been a source of philosophical understanding to Jews, Moslems and Christians. Please call to confirm location.
Chassiduth with Rabbi Mintz:
(W at 7:00 PM)
Rabbi Mintz continues teaching us fundamentals of Chabad Chassiduth for the 8th consecutive year. His presentation allows one to find the very soul of Chassiduth and emphasizes why Chassiduth is so attractive to moderns.
Talmud:
(M-W-F at 9AM)
This Talmud Shiyyur will emphasize the theological underpinnings of Jewish and of all life. The Gemara questions when, in extraordinary times, we need blessings, and what the efficacy of blessing s mean to us. The course is presented in English with ample reference to the comments of Rishonim and Acharonim. While the class meets three times a week, students and guests are invited during any session to uncover the true philosophies of Judaism.
Rashi on Torahth:
(Saturday after schul)
An adventure with the dean of all Torah commentaries where the student will learn Rashi's mode of exploration and exegesis, the questions he asks and the answers that he supplies and the further questions that he anticipates. The excitement of Rashi's genius is evident in his every comment.
Christian-Jewish Dialogue:
(Wednesday at 11:00 AM)
Church of the Holy Spirit, Congregation Beth Ahm with other churches will begin a 7th semester of our Christian-Jewish dialogue. This program will highlight the text from the prophets, including Isaiah, Jeremiah and Ezekiel.
Tales of the Besht:
(4 Mondays at 2:00 PM) - Begins May 5th
An examination of the stories of the Baal Shem tov, which were the primary method his teachings were transmitted to his followers and those who would follow him in order to create a seminal movement in Judaism. The genre of stories is different from other manner of Jewish education, and although not novel to the era of the Besht was extensively used to reach those who did not have the opportunity of Yeshiva education.
Elementary Hebrew:
(Sunday morning 11:00 Oct-Nov) - Begins October 11th
An introduction to Hebrew reading where every student will learn to follow along in the Siddur and will have the tools to learn how to read a newspaper. Course size is limited to six. Registration is required.
Intermediary Hebrew:
(Sunday morning 10:00 AM)
Students will learn to translate simple Hebrew tests and become acquainted with the fundamentals of grammar. Course size limited to six. Fee is $18 to cover materials. Class begins on Sunday, March 7th at 10:00 am. Registration is required.
Rosh Chodesh Group:
(Thurs. nearest to Rosh Chodesh at 7:00 - for women only)
an opportunity for women to celebrate the Women's holiday of Rosh Chodesh with torah study from a women's perspective. Topics include women's place in Jewish society, Sarah's position as creator of the Jewish house and Rebecca's position as patriarch maker.
Chess Club:
(Thursday nights - Year Round Program)
No learning here, only an opportunity to sharpen your wits with others who choose to play chess in schul on Thursday nights. Attendees can be of any age.
Jewish Book Club:

a monthly lay led group where participants will have the opportunity of to discuss Jewish best sellers and, if so decided, national best sellers. Book purchases will be subsidized. Registration is required.

Moving from the late 19th century to the present, this course presents a broad survey of objects designed with both aesthetic appreciation and practical function in mind. Topics of discussion will include the relationship between objects designed for everyday use and the utopian aims of modern art objects, the respective roles of handcraft and machine technology in the development of modern design practices, and the function of practical objects in changing private and public contexts. Visuals will be provided.

Nature and the environment play a central role in Jewish life. We will explore a variety of Jewish beliefs, practices, and texts about our relationship to the environment as well as the history of Jewish ecology and environmental activism. We will discuss concepts such as eco-kashrut, unnecessary destruction, kindness to animals, protection of fruit trees, agricultural pollution, harming the public domain, noise and smoke damage, and similar concepts.
